GYMIX® Radio reaches One Million!

So what is GYMIX®?

GYMIX® is a Music Technology Company, that has developed an audio formula to enhance performance during exercise.

We now supply over 120 gyms and health clubs with a workout-music and advertising solution, in Ireland, Northern Ireland, the UK and Middle East., reaching One Million people for at least one hour every week.

How did we reach One Million Weekly Listeners?

It wouldn’t have been possible without the tremendous help from the StartUp community in Cork.

For example, we’ve been a part of the Teamwork Catalyst SaaS Incubator for the past 12 months, which has included free office space, with light, heat, broadband, snacks and endless coffee! Which you can imagine, all the above have been a massive financial benefit for a young start-up like us. Plus Peter and Dan, the Teamwork.com founders, have made themselves available to us in mentoring sessions, again such an advantage for us hearing the dos and don’ts from a hugely successful Cork StartUp story.

We have to acknowledge that during the very critical first 24 months of GYMIX®, funding from Joe Burke in the Local Enterprise Office South Cork, bought us much-needed runway!

But being a part of Enterprise Ireland’s New Frontiers Programme at The Rubicon Centre CIT in Cork, Paul Healy, George Bulman and Peter Finnegan (now UCC Blackstone) really took our business from a cottage industry to an internationally tradable product.

How did it start?

“The idea came by chance while my brother Peter was working on his fitness with Luke Dennehy at Dennehy’s Health & Fitness in Cork.  They asked me for music mixes to play in the gym so I made a couple, but they kept asking and asking. I was very busy at the time at my day job at 98FM in Dublin, so I eventually gave them a prototype of what is GYMIX® today to get them off my back.

Two weeks later I got a call saying their sales of a Protein Coffee had risen 150% and complaints from members about the music had stopped.”

 So What’s Next?

Right now we’re solving a major problem for gyms, so our team is creating products and tools for Personal Trainers and Gym Users. Backed with investment from Enterprise Ireland, this suite of SaaS products will be available in the summer through our website GYMIX.FM, on iOS and Android, with GYMIX® on TV™ coming on stream early 2019.
